Calorie Reduction Diet

A calorie reduction diet allows you to eat what you want as long as you eat portions that are small enough to keep you under a specific caloric intake. If you wanted to you could spend all of your calories for a day on a pint of ice cream.

While the ice cream might be enjoyable on occasion most low calorie diets do focus on eating a variety of healthy foods in moderate portions. Ideally you would allow for a balanced mixture of carbohydrates, protein, and fat in order to keep your body healthy.

How Many Calories Do You Need?

Your daily caloric need varies depending on your height and current body weight. There are equations that will give you a good way to calculate how many calories you need to maintain you weight. For example you can take your body weight and multiply it by ten.

Then if you are a man add your body weight to that figure twice and if you are a woman add it once. If you want to lose weight you simply need to eat fewer calories than produced in your equation.

You can usually reduce your caloric intake by five hundred to one thousand calories safely. One thing you must keep in mind however, is that it is not healthy to restrict your caloric intake too much.

Doctors recommend that women not let their caloric intake fall below twelve hundred each day and no less than eighteen hundred per day is recommended for men.

What Foods Are Low in Calories?

Fruits and vegetables are always a good choice if you are planning on using a calorie reduction diet. Most fruits and vegetables are very low in calories so you are able to eat more of them for fewer of your calorie collateral. These are some of the fruits and vegetables that you can enjoy a lot of while on a low calorie diet.

Do I Have to Exercise?

A daily exercise regime is not a necessary component of a calorie reduction diet. While exercising can be beneficial to weight loss and to your overall health it is not required. Sufficiently reducing your calories without the addition of any exercise will result in weight loss.

There are many calorie reduction diets you can try. Regardless of which one you choose it is important to try and maintain a healthy balance of different foods in your daily diet. Make sure you are getting enough food to keep your body healthy on your weight loss journey.
